Unio Mystica
Unio Mystica (2022)
Drama, 4k, HD, 9mins
Status: Completed
In the Middle Ages, the "women's mysticism" movement emerged in Central Europe. Unmarried and widowed women found refuge in monastery-like communities, such as the Beguine movement, which was a lay order that surfaced in the 12th century. Here women could lead contemplative, active and self-determined lives characterized by education in self-imposed poverty, within small and protective communities. The intense contemplation and asceticism in these places brought forth deeply mystical experiences.
The descriptions of these experiences can be found in all mystical schools and traditions, for their essence is ultimately always the same - though different in language and symbolism - typically including at its core the individual becoming one with God. The term "unio mystica" describes the occidental concept of this inner unification process.
This short film drama attempts to capture the inexplicable through dance and movement in a multifaceted cinematic language.
The film has been completed and is currently on its festival run. The video above shows a teaser for this project.
